Esha Deol Reflects on Growing Up with Conservative Norms and Restrictions
Esha Deol has been open about her personal experiences and the conservative environment she grew up in. In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, she discussed how traditional family norms impacted her upbringing, particularly regarding menstruation. Esha revealed that she was not allowed to pray at temples during her periods.
Restrictions and Learning Experience
Esha shared that her understanding of menstruation and periods came from sex education at school. She stated, “I learned about it in school through our sex education classes, which were well-timed and informative. It’s important for such education to be provided. Some parents might feel uncomfortable discussing these topics, but that was the norm for us. We were not allowed to visit temples or pray during periods. Once it was over, you could wash your hair and resume praying. This was the orthodox approach we followed, and I respect it as part of the household traditions.”
