Box Office Report: Tumbbad’s Re-Release
After years of anticipation, Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad is finally receiving the acclaim it deserves. While the film initially struggled at the box office upon its 2018 release, it’s making a strong comeback with its re-release. Here’s a detailed look at its box office performance on Day 2:
In the absence of major Bollywood releases, classic films have been making a return to theaters. Following the success of Rockstar, Laila Majnu, and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, two more beloved films, Veer Zaara and Tumbbad, were re-released this Friday. Notably, Tumbbad has set a new benchmark, achieving the highest opening ever for a Bollywood re-release.
On its opening day, the re-release of Tumbbad collected an impressive 1.65 crores, a significant increase from its original 2018 opening of 0.65 crores. With continued buzz, the film saw a substantial 60.60% increase on Day 2, earning 2.65 crores. This brings its total two-day collection to 4.30 crores at the Indian box office.
With a total of 4.30 crores, Tumbbad has already recouped its reported budget of 15 crores. The film initially earned 13.48 crores in its 2018 run. Including the re-release collections, the film’s overall domestic total now stands at 17.78 crores. This results in a return on investment (ROI) of 2.78 crores, or an 18.53% return.
Given the positive word-of-mouth, Tumbbad is expected to see another significant boost today and maintain strong performance through the weekdays. By the end of its run, it is projected to surpass Rockstar’s 10 crores net, becoming the highest-grossing re-release in Bollywood history.
